Born and raised in Japan, Paul Owen learned that hard work and diligent effort always brought about great success and results.  After returning to the U.S. at the age of 18 and subsequently receiving his B.A. from the Oregon State University College of Business he immediately went to work for Vanport Manufacturing in Boring, Oregon. Paul spend the next few years learning the ins and outs of the sawmilling business and lumber sales as well as helping to start up sawmills in both the United States and Canada. In 1994, only six years after receiving his business degree from OSU, Paul Owen was promoted to be Vice President of a newly formed division of the company, Vanport International. In this position with Vanport, Paul’s Japanese language ability and understanding of business and international markets helped the company to expand its global business reach into Japan, China, Russia, Canada and Europe. Paul was promoted to President of Vanport International in April of 2010. He continues to travel the world looking for new opportunities for Vanport and all the while he stays loyal to Oregon State University and continues to encourage many of his employees who are fellow Oregon State graduates to contribute to the University as well as the Alumni Association.
